ENGLAND WIN

England responded to their previous Nations League defeat by beating the Czech Republic 2-0 in Prague.

The victory came after a difficult night against Spain, giving Thomas Tuchel’s team an important result in Group A3.

England were helped by a major turning point in the first half when Czech midfielder Pavel Šulc was sent off after a challenge on Elliot Anderson.

The numerical advantage eventually told.

Anthony Gordon opened the scoring shortly after the restart, heading home from Trent Alexander-Arnold’s cross.

Harry Kane then doubled England’s lead in the 69th minute with a composed finish.

The result also produced an interesting change for Alexander-Arnold.

The Liverpool defender started at right-back and delivered the assist for Gordon, showing another attacking dimension from his position.

Tuchel also rested Jude Bellingham initially, while Alex Scott and Rio Ngumoha were handed international debuts.

For Kane, the night produced another landmark moment.

The England captain moved to 87 international goals, extending his record as the country’s leading scorer.

England still have work to do in the group, but the victory provides a much-needed response after the loss to Spain.

The next challenge will be maintaining that momentum.

With competition for places increasing, Tuchel has several decisions to make before England’s next major test.
