Manchester United fans may not have to wait much longer to see new midfielder Carlos Baleba in competitive action.

The Cameroon international is currently recovering from an ankle ligament injury, but the latest timeline suggests that his return could come in the middle or latter part of September 2026. If his rehabilitation continues without setbacks, Baleba could potentially make his Manchester United debut before the month is over.

The two fixtures attracting the most attention are Manchester United’s Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton on September 16 and the Premier League trip to Fulham on September 20.

Brighton Could Provide an Early Opportunity

Manchester United are scheduled to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the third round of the Carabao Cup on September 16.

That match could come at an interesting point in Baleba’s recovery. Brighton is also the club the midfielder previously represented, making a potential Manchester United debut against his former side an intriguing possibility.

However, given the nature of an ankle ligament injury, United are unlikely to rush their new signing back simply to meet a particular date.

If Baleba is declared fit but is not yet ready to start, the Carabao Cup could provide an ideal opportunity to introduce him gradually. A short substitute appearance would allow him to regain match fitness while limiting the physical demands placed on him.

That makes Brighton a possible target for a first appearance, although there is still no guarantee that he will be available by September 16.

Fulham Looks Like the More Realistic Debut Date

If Manchester United decide to take a more cautious approach, the Premier League match against Fulham on September 20 could become Baleba’s most likely debut.

United travel to Fulham four days after the Brighton fixture, giving the midfielder additional recovery and training time.

A September 20 appearance would also fit the broader expectation that Baleba should be back around the middle-to-late part of the month.

For United supporters, the Fulham fixture could therefore be the date to watch.

Should Baleba complete his rehabilitation successfully and return to full training on schedule, he could be included in the matchday squad. Whether he starts or comes off the bench would likely depend on his fitness levels and how much competitive football he has managed to complete beforehand.

Why Baleba’s Return Matters

Baleba’s arrival has generated considerable excitement because of the qualities he can bring to Manchester United’s midfield.

The powerful midfielder is known for his physicality, ball-carrying ability and defensive work. His ability to cover ground and compete in midfield could give United another option in the centre of the pitch.

His injury has therefore made patience particularly important. Manchester United will want their new signing fully fit rather than risk aggravating the problem by returning him too quickly.

The priority will be a controlled rehabilitation followed by a gradual return to competitive football.

September Could Be a Big Month

At this stage, September 16 against Brighton should be viewed as the earliest realistic opportunity, while September 20 against Fulham appears to be a more conservative and potentially more realistic target.

Of course, injury recoveries can change quickly. A minor setback could delay Baleba’s return into October, while positive progress could see him involved sooner than expected.

For now, Manchester United fans have reason to be optimistic.

Carlos Baleba could be back in action by mid-to-late September, with Brighton potentially offering his first opportunity and Fulham emerging as a strong candidate for his Premier League debut.

The countdown is on. 🔴⚫⏳
