The University of Alabama has officially dismissed head football coach Kalen DeBoer following the team’s elimination from the College Football Playoff. This decision comes after a season marked by underwhelming performances, including unexpected losses to Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and a significant defeat by Oklahoma, where the Crimson Tide managed only three points—their lowest since 2004.

DeBoer, who succeeded legendary coach Nick Saban, faced immense pressure to maintain Alabama’s storied success. Despite a promising start, the team’s inconsistencies led to growing dissatisfaction among fans and boosters. Reports indicate that DeBoer sought contract termination due to disagreements over the program’s direction and recent personnel changes.

  • The university has announced that an interim coach will lead the team while a nationwide search for DeBoer’s replacement is conducted. Potential candidates include prominent figures such as Dabo Swinney and Lane Kiffin. Athletic Director Greg Byrne emphasized the institution’s commitment to restoring the football program’s legacy.
