Former NFL Coach of the Year Dick Jauron Dies at 74

Former NFL head coach Dick Jauron, who led the Chicago Bears and Buffalo Bills and was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2001, has passed away at the age of 74.

Jauron, a respected figure in the football world, spent decades in the NFL as both a player and a coach. After a successful playing career as a Pro Bowl defensive back for the Detroit Lions, he transitioned to coaching, eventually becoming a head coach for the Chicago Bears (1999–2003) and Buffalo Bills (2006–2009). He also had an interim head coaching stint with the Detroit Lions in 2005.

His most notable coaching achievement came in 2001, when he guided the Bears to a 13-3 record, earning NFL Coach of the Year honors. Under his leadership, Chicago’s defense dominated, and the team made a surprise playoff run.

Jauron remained involved in the NFL after his head coaching years, later serving as the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns (2011–2012). Throughout his career, he was known for his leadership, defensive expertise, and ability to develop young talent.
