Sky TV seems to be everywhere these days, and their Swiss version now suggests that Mohammed Kudus is “looking for a way out of West Ham”.

As an exclusive, this is hardly breaking news, but the report that the Ghanaian Kladivars winger wants to play at a higher level than at West Ham is heartbreaking.

He will never quite understand why West Ham didn’t take a gamble on acquiring players in the last January transfer window. The loss of Said Benrahma, Pablo Fornals and Thilo Kehrer left the squad painfully depleted and ill-equipped for the dual assault of European and domestic football.

The immediate result was that the season ended without success, but the long-term effect is greater: players like Kudus now want to leave. To be honest, the former Ajax player only joined Kladivar for European football. Although he might have accepted one season without him, two seasons is too much.

Even the most optimistic West Ham supporter would admit that Julen Lopetegui is ill-prepared to make a change this season. All we can do is to secure the best possible fee for Kudus.

While it may not be news that Kudus wants to leave, it certainly seems inevitable.
