Cowboys coaching search: Robert Saleh completes in-person interview as Dallas replaces Mike McCarthy
Robert Saleh: The former head coach of the New York Jets, known for his defensive expertise, has interviewed with the Cowboys. His head coaching experience and defensive background add diversity to the pool of candidates.
The Dallas Cowboys’ coaching search is officially underway after parting ways with Mike McCarthy following five seasons.
Owner and general manager Jerry Jones chatted with Colorado head coach Deion Sanders and then Jones made his first known interview request Wednesday.
It’s was with former New York Jetshead coach Robert Saleh, per NFL Media.
On Saturday, the Cowboys announced that they had completed an in-person interview with Saleh. He was the first candidate to interview in-person for the position.
Saleh went 20-36 in just under four seasons as the Jets head coach after being fired following Week 5 this season.
However, his side of the football (defense) was never really the issue in New York. After having the league’s worst defense in 2021, Saleh’s squads were top-five total defenses in each of his last three seasons.
