Florida State University (FSU) has bolstered its 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of offensive lineman Chavez “Sandman” Thompson from Cocoa High School in Florida. Thompson, standing at 6’2″ and weighing 310 pounds, is recognized for his versatility, having played both guard and tackle positions in high school. He was named the 2024 Offensive Lineman of the Year by Brevard Sports Network.

Initially committed to Florida International University (FIU) on January 2, 2025, Thompson flipped his commitment to FSU after an official visit on January 11. His decision was significantly influenced by the strong relationships he built with FSU’s coaching staff, particularly offensive line coach Herb Hand and head coach Gus Malzahn, who had been recruiting him since his sophomore year.

Thompson’s wrestling background adds to his athletic profile, and FSU plans to develop him as a center, allowing him to learn behind experienced upperclassmen and benefit from the university’s strength and conditioning program.

This commitment reflects FSU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its offensive line depth and overall roster through strategic recruiting.
