Otega Oweh’s Stellar Performance Leads Kentucky to Thrilling Victory Over Oklahoma

In a dramatic return to Norman, former Sooner Otega Oweh delivered a career-best performance, propelling the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats to a narrow 83-82 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. Oweh’s impressive stat line included a career-high 28 points, 6 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Dominance Down the Stretch

Oweh was instrumental in the game’s final moments, scoring 21 of Kentucky’s last 23 points, including an off-balance floater with just six seconds remaining to secure the win. His defensive prowess was also on display, as he blocked Oklahoma’s final shot attempt, ensuring the Wildcats’ triumph.

Rising Above Hostility

Returning to his former home court, Oweh faced a hostile environment, with fans chanting “He’s a traitor” during his free-throw attempts. Despite the antagonism, he maintained composure and delivered a performance that silenced the crowd.

Team Contributions

Fellow former Sooner, Brandon Garrison, also made significant contributions, adding 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 3 steals. His defensive efforts complemented Oweh’s offensive showcase, highlighting the duo’s impact against their former team.

Post-Game Incident

The intense atmosphere culminated in an unfortunate incident post-game, where a fan threw a beer can at Kentucky players as they exited the court. The University of Oklahoma is currently investigating the matter to ensure appropriate actions are taken.

This victory improves Kentucky’s record to 19-9, while Oklahoma falls to 17-11, jeopardizing their postseason aspirations. Oweh’s exceptional performance not only secured the win but also underscored his growth and resilience since transferring to Kentucky.
