Leeds United star Dan James’ form has improved significantly over the last 18 months. The winger is shooting more, taking more risks and getting better results.

When James transferred to Swansea, played briefly at Old Trafford and then spent his first few years at Leeds United, his end product was always under the microscope. But Daniel Farke helped.

James believes he is in the form of his life, and he said as much in the second half of last season. Apparently Farke has told James to shoot on goal more and not to score from shots he doesn’t take.

However, this end product is still not very convincing. His goal against Plymouth, even a 25-yard rocket, still didn’t look very fluent, and on Tuesday night the Welsh media again questioned James’ end product.

James started from the substitutes’ bench after the game against Turkey, as Wales scored a convincing 4-1 win to beat Iceland. With Turkey eliminated against Montenegro, Wales secured promotion to the Nations League.

The £25 million player did not score or create a goal, but his shot for the second goal was denied and Liam Cullen put it in the net. Cullen scored two goals, while Brennan Johnson and Harry Wilson also got on the scoresheet.

Wales Online rated him 7/10. They thought his end product was flawed: “He didn’t always have the end product, but his pace really stretched Iceland. In the centre of the second goal. Confused.”

Welsh’s judgement matches Daniel Farke’s “feeling” about James
After the 3-1 win over Swansea in 2023, in which James scored one goal and created another, Daniel Farke spoke about James’ end product. Farke said that he felt James could have done better in front of goal.

James showed improvement last season, but this time he needs to return to that form if Leeds are to have any chance of leapfrogging Sunderland and Sheffield United in the table.

James is likely to remain in the starting line up on Sunday when Leeds take on his old club Swansea. Joel Piroe and Joe Rodon will also play for their former team in North Wales.
