**Allen Bailey: A Decade in the NFL from Humble Beginnings at Miami

 

Allen Bailey may not be the first name that comes to mind when thinking about the University of Miami’s storied football program, but his career in both college and the NFL proves that hard work and perseverance can lead to long-term success. While Bailey didn’t receive the same level of national attention as some of the Hurricanes’ all-time greats, he quietly built a solid 10-year career in the NFL, showcasing his durability and skill on the defensive line.

 

In 2010, when this photo was taken, Bailey was entering his senior season at Miami. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing around 285 pounds, he was a force on the defensive line. He had the rare combination of size, strength, and speed that made him a versatile player, capable of playing both defensive end and defensive tackle. In the 2011 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Bailey in the third round with the 86th overall pick. He quickly adapted to the professional level, carving out a role as a reliable defensive lineman. Bailey spent eight seasons with the Chiefs, playing in 102 games and recording 207 tackles, 19.5 sacks, and five forced fumbles. His ability to contribute in both pass-rushing and run-stopping situations made him a key rotational player on Kansas City’s defense.

 

After his time with the Chiefs, Bailey signed with the Atlanta Falcons in 2019, adding two more years to his NFL career before retiring in 2021. While he never reached Pro Bowl status, his longevity in a league where the average career lasts less than four years speaks volumes about his talent, discipline, and ability to stay healthy.
