Even without Nick Saban, the Crimson Tide had another excellent recruiting class. All 20 of the prospects they had committed stuck to their guns and stuck with the Tide with no drama. The real excitement was yet to come.
For those who are unfamiliar, Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, NV) is a high school football powerhouse. They went 12-1 this season en route to the fourth straight state title. Their only defeat came at the hands of another power, Mater Dei. Recent alum of BG include Rome Odunze, Dorian Thompson-Robinson, and Cedric Tillman.
Saban often recruited players out of this school, but never managed to nab one. Now, Coach Kalen DeBoer has achieved something the G.O.A.T. never could, which happened when he signed WR Derek Meadows on Wednesday evening.
Meadows committed to LSU back in July, but that did not discourage the Alabama staff. Perhaps it was the Bayou Bengals lousy season. Or maybe it was the Tide’s dismantling of the Tigers in their own stadium. Or perhaps he saw how Brian Kelly treats his players. Whatever it was, Meadows saw the light and announced his flip to Bama at his high school’s signing ceremony.
