In 2001, Mary Ann was diagnosed with leukemia. She underwent aggressive treatment, including a bone marrow transplant in 2003, and enjoyed a decade of being cancer-free, cherishing time with her grandchildren. Her death resulted from complications of a pulmonary infection.
