Darrell “Duke” Johnson Commits to Alabama, Bolstering Crimson Tide Defense

The Alabama Crimson Tide have landed a major defensive playmaker in Darrell “Duke” Johnson, a highly touted linebacker out of Dodge County High School in Georgia. Johnson, one of the top recruits in the 2025 class, officially committed to Alabama, choosing the Tide over Florida State, Tennessee, and several other top programs.

Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing between 200 and 210 pounds, Johnson is a force on the field with an impressive 80-inch wingspan. He is ranked as a top-30 player nationally and the No. 3 linebacker in the country, according to 247Sports. His production speaks for itself—103 tackles as a junior and the Region 1-AA Defensive Player of the Year honor as a sophomore.

Beyond his sheer numbers, what sets Johnson apart is his versatility. In high school, he played linebacker, safety, and even took snaps at quarterback and running back, showcasing elite athleticism and football IQ. His ability to cover ground sideline to sideline, disrupt passing lanes, and instinctively read plays makes him an ideal fit for Alabama’s defense.

Head coach Kalen DeBoer and his staff made Johnson a top priority, and for good reason. His combination of length, speed, and instincts makes him a plug-and-play defender who can contribute immediately. Johnson’s commitment is a significant recruiting win for Alabama, further solidifying the Tide’s dominance on the defensive side of the ball.

With Johnson now in the fold, Alabama adds yet another elite talent to its defensive unit, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse for developing top-tier linebackers. Roll Tide!
