Newcastle are plotting another move for Marc Guehi after failing to sign the England international last summer – with the Magpies encouraged by the fact Crystal Palace are struggling to make progress in contract discussions.
Furthermore – in terms of incomings rather than possible outgoings – Crystal Palace are ready to spend after a terrible start to the 2024/25 campaign, with Dougie Freedman ready to make additions in attack and also in the wing-back department.
Newcastle think they can sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace for £30m
A story from the Daily Mirror (print version, Thursday 21st November) states that Newcastle believe they can sign the Crystal Palace No.6 for just £30m in January.
As you may recall, Newcastle came close to signing Guehi for £70m before Chadi Riad suffered a serious injury and the deal collapsed.
Now, the Magpies feel they could sign the 24-year-old for less than half that amount, given the fact he will only have 18 months remaining on his contract in January, and is showing no desire to sign a new deal.
Additionally, Guehi is keen on joining Newcastle – according to The Northern Echo – so Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell feel a £30m deal is possible this winter.

If Steve Parish reads this report, we expect the 59-year-old had a little chuckle over it.
Why would the man from Forest Hill entertain the mid-season sale of Guehi, our captain, for just £12m more than the £18m it cost to sign him from Chelsea, all while Crystal Palace find themselves in a relegation battle?
Of course, there is no doubt the man from Abidjan’s value has decreased from the £70m he was worth last summer, but even in the summer of 2025, we doubt Parish will deem him to be under a sum of £40m, let alone the upcoming January window.
Parish was already upset with Newcastle after the Magpies tried to take Freedman from Selhurst Park, so if a £30m bid does arrive, it wouldn’t surprise us if he simply didn’t respond.
