Wrexham AFC co-chairmen Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds have officially signed a landmark development contract aimed at expanding the club’s youth academy across North Wales, in what is being described as a “generational investment” in the future of football in the region.

The ambitious agreement—valued at over £8 million—will see the establishment of three new satellite academy hubs in Bangor, Rhyl, and Llandudno over the next two years. The expansion is designed to scout, train, and nurture local talent between the ages of 8 and 18, with a focus on inclusivity, education, and long-term athletic development.

“We believe the future of Wrexham lies in North Wales—literally,” said McElhenney during the signing ceremony at the Racecourse Ground. “This isn’t just about building a stronger club; it’s about giving young people real opportunity, close to home.”
