Manchester City winger Jérémy Doku has made his future clear. Despite speculation surrounding several Manchester City players during a summer of major changes, the Belgian international is staying at the Etihad Stadium after committing his long-term future to the club.

Doku has signed a new five-year contract that keeps him at Manchester City until the summer of 2031, demonstrating just how highly the club values the talented winger.

At just 24, Doku has already established himself as one of the most exciting one-on-one players in the Premier League. His explosive acceleration, close control and ability to beat defenders make him a particularly dangerous weapon on the flanks.

Since joining Manchester City, Doku has made 131 appearances, scoring 22 goals and providing 34 assists. His numbers improved significantly last season, when he registered eight goals and 14 assists across 47 appearances, while helping City win both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

His new contract therefore represents more than simply a new financial agreement. It is a clear indication that Manchester City believe Doku has an important role to play in the next chapter of the club.

🔵 Doku’s Immediate Problem

While his long-term future is secure, Doku’s immediate concern is his fitness.

The Belgian winger has been dealing with a calf injury, which prevented him from featuring in Manchester City’s opening Premier League match against Bournemouth on August 23.

City eventually won the match 2–1, but Doku was forced to watch from the sidelines.

For a player whose game depends heavily on acceleration and explosive movement, a calf problem is something City will be keen to manage carefully.

There is little reason for the club to rush him back. With a long Premier League season ahead, protecting Doku’s fitness will be important if he is expected to make a major contribution.

A New Era at Manchester City

Doku’s new contract comes at an important time for Manchester City.

The club is undergoing significant changes, with players departing and new faces arriving. Under manager Enzo Maresca, City are attempting to establish a new identity while remaining competitive at the highest level.

Doku could become one of the key attacking players in that project.

His ability to stretch defences and create opportunities from wide positions gives City something different from traditional possession-based attacking options. When Doku is able to isolate a defender in a one-on-one situation, his speed and dribbling can completely change the complexion of a match.

That makes his availability particularly important.

No Exit Plans

For supporters wondering whether Doku could be the next major Manchester City player to leave, the new contract provides a fairly straightforward answer.

City are not preparing to sell him.

Instead, the club has committed to keeping him for another five seasons, giving Doku an opportunity to become an even more important figure at the Etihad.

The challenge now is turning that long-term commitment into consistent performances on the pitch.

Doku has already shown flashes of his enormous potential. The next step is maintaining his fitness, improving his end product and becoming a regular match-winner.

For Manchester City, the message is clear: Jérémy Doku is part of the future.

The only question right now is when he will be fit enough to start showing exactly why the club was willing to keep him until 2031.
