Chelsea Receive Triple Injury Boost Ahead of October Return
Chelsea could welcome several important players back after the international break, giving Xabi Alonso a potential boost following a difficult period of injuries.
João Pedro, Reece James and Moisés Caicedo have all been dealing with fitness problems and missed Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat against Brentford.
João Pedro has been recovering from a minor knee problem suffered during the draw with Hull City. The Brazilian continued playing in that match and scored a late equaliser, but subsequently withdrew from Brazil’s squad.
Reece James is dealing with another hamstring problem. Chelsea’s captain completed 90 minutes against Hull before missing training and the Brentford match.
Caicedo’s situation has been slightly different.
The Ecuadorian midfielder has managed only 14 minutes of competitive football this season after suffering a calf problem during pre-season. He returned against Brighton but was forced off again after aggravating the injury.
Chelsea now have a three-week international break to allow the players to recover and rebuild their fitness.
All three could potentially return when Chelsea face Bournemouth on October 10, although final decisions will depend on their progress during the break.
For Alonso, their return could be particularly important after Chelsea suffered another disappointing result against Brentford.
