Manchester City Confirm Claudio Echeverri Loan Move To Benfica
Manchester City have confirmed that Claudio Echeverri has joined Portuguese giants Benfica on a season-long loan, giving the highly-rated Argentine another opportunity to continue his development away from the Etihad.
The move was completed after the Premier League transfer window had already closed, with City confirming the deal on Thursday. Echeverri will spend the 2026/27 campaign in Portugal as he looks to gain more regular first-team experience.
The 20-year-old has found opportunities at Manchester City limited since arriving from River Plate, making the temporary move an important step in his development.
Benfica offers Echeverri the chance to compete at a major European club while playing a potentially greater role than he might have received in Pep Guardiola’s squad.
For City, the decision allows the club to continue monitoring his progress while giving the midfielder valuable competitive experience.
Echeverri will now have the opportunity to prove himself in Portuguese football and demonstrate that he can eventually return to Manchester ready to compete for a place in Guardiola’s plans.
The loan could therefore become a significant chapter in the youngster’s City career, particularly if he can establish himself as one of Benfica’s standout players this season.
