MAZRAOUI INJURED
Noussair Mazraoui has become the latest Manchester United player to suffer an injury scare during the international break.
The defender was forced off during Morocco’s 2-0 victory over Lesotho after appearing to hurt his lower back.
Mazraoui initially tried to continue, but the problem proved serious enough for him to leave the pitch in the 69th minute.
The timing is particularly frustrating for United.
Patrick Dorgu has already returned from Denmark duty with a suspected hamstring problem. Bruno Fernandes has also missed Portugal action because of a fitness issue, while other United players have dealt with injuries during the break.
That leaves Michael Carrick facing an uncomfortable selection problem.
Mazraoui has been useful because of his versatility. He can operate on either side of the defence and gives United another experienced option when the manager needs to change his shape.
At the moment, there is no confirmed recovery timetable.
That means supporters should avoid assuming the injury is serious until further medical checks are completed.
Still, another defensive concern is the last thing Carrick needs.
United have important fixtures waiting after the international break. Losing several players at the same time could force the manager to rely more heavily on younger squad members.
The next few days will therefore be crucial.
United supporters will be hoping Mazraoui’s problem is only a minor setback.
