PEDRO FIGHTS BACK
Chelsea have received a positive update on João Pedro after the Brazilian forward consulted a knee specialist during the international break.
Pedro suffered the problem after Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Hull earlier this month. The injury subsequently ruled him out against Brentford and forced him to withdraw from Brazil duty.
Chelsea initially expected the forward to miss around four weeks.
However, the latest update suggests Pedro is working aggressively on his rehabilitation in an attempt to return as soon as possible.
That would be a major boost for Xabi Alonso.
Pedro made an excellent start to the season before the injury interrupted his progress. He scored three goals and provided three assists during his first four Premier League appearances.
His link-up with Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer had also attracted plenty of attention.
Chelsea therefore have plenty of reasons to want him back quickly.
The earliest possible return could come against Bournemouth on October 10, although the Everton match a week later may be a more realistic target.
Chelsea will not want to rush him.
A knee problem can become worse if a player returns before he is fully ready. The medical team will therefore have the final say.
For now, Pedro’s decision to see a specialist shows how seriously he is taking the recovery.
Chelsea supporters will be hoping the next update brings an even bigger boost.
