Erling Haaland Backed to Break Cristiano Ronaldo’s All-Time Scoring Record
Erling Haaland’s extraordinary scoring rate has sparked a new debate: could the Manchester City striker eventually break Cristiano Ronaldo’s all-time scoring record?
Haaland has already scored 364 senior goals in just 440 appearances at the age of 26.
His Manchester City numbers are even more remarkable, with 167 goals in 203 appearances since joining the club.
The Norway international recently scored twice against Porto in the Champions League, taking his tally to five goals in the competition and strengthening his reputation as one of the most devastating finishers in modern football.
Ronaldo currently sits on an extraordinary 979 goals for club and country.
That means Haaland still has an enormous mountain to climb.
However, his scoring efficiency is what makes the discussion fascinating.
To surpass Ronaldo, Haaland would need to maintain a remarkable scoring rate deep into his thirties and potentially his early forties.
Injuries remain the obvious obstacle.
But Haaland has already broken the Premier League record for reaching 100 goals fastest and continues to score at a rate few players in history have matched.
The Manchester derby against United could provide his next opportunity to add to the tally.
Ronaldo’s record still looks enormous.
But for the first time, football has a young striker who makes people seriously wonder whether it can eventually fall.
