Erling Haaland has entered the 2026/27 season looking completely different — and his first Premier League appearance has already given Manchester City fans plenty to talk about.
The Norwegian superstar shocked football fans just hours before Manchester City’s opening Premier League fixture by cutting off his famous long blonde hair and revealing a dramatically shorter hairstyle. But while the new look immediately went viral, Haaland’s performance on the pitch produced a very different reaction.
Haaland started for City in their opening-day clash with Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, August 23, but failed to find the net as Pep Guardiola’s former side began a new era under manager Enzo Maresca with a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory.
Haaland’s dramatic transformation
For years, Haaland’s long blonde hair has been one of his most recognizable features. The hairstyle became almost as iconic as his powerful goalscoring celebrations.
That all changed before the new Premier League campaign.

The result was particularly significant because Manchester City are beginning life after Pep Guardiola.
