Manchester City have opened their 2026/27 UEFA Champions League campaign with a huge 2-0 away victory over FC Porto, thanks to another sensational performance from Erling Haaland.
After a difficult first half in Portugal, City remained patient as Porto created pressure in front of their passionate supporters. The breakthrough finally arrived in the second half when Haaland found space inside the box and finished clinically to give the English champions the lead.
The Norwegian striker was not finished. He struck again later in the match to complete his brace and secure all three points for Enzo Maresca’s side. His movement, physical strength and ruthless finishing once again proved decisive on one of Europe’s biggest stages.
The victory also continues Manchester City’s impressive start under their new manager, with supporters believing the team is already developing a stronger identity despite several summer changes.
Haaland’s latest performance will inevitably restart discussions about whether he remains the most dangerous striker in world football. With another Champions League campaign underway, rivals have been reminded that giving him even one clear opportunity can completely change a match.
City now turn their attention towards the upcoming Manchester derby, carrying momentum and confidence after an important European statement away from home.
