KANE CHASES HISTORY
Harry Kane has another piece of history within reach when England face Croatia today.
The England captain is expected to lead the attack in Rijeka as Thomas Tuchel’s side continue their Nations League campaign.
England enter the match after recovering from their opening defeat to Spain with a 2-0 victory over the Czech Republic.
Now they face a much tougher test.
Kane has already scored in England’s recent matches and remains one of Tuchel’s most reliable sources of goals.
Another strike against Croatia would give him an opportunity to extend an impressive scoring sequence away from home.
The match also brings another fascinating personal battle.
Luka Modrić, now 41, remains central to Croatia’s plans.
That puts two experienced leaders in the spotlight, although their roles are very different.
England will also have to cope without Manchester City youngster Nico O’Reilly, who withdrew from the squad earlier in the week.
The game will be played behind closed doors because of UEFA sanctions, removing the usual Croatian home atmosphere.
That could help England.
However, Croatia remain dangerous, particularly with Modrić and Ivan Perišić providing experience.
England won the teams’ most recent meeting 4-2 at the World Cup.
Croatia will want revenge.
Kane and England want three points.
