UNITED WOMEN FACE LIVERPOOL
Manchester United Women face Liverpool today in a fixture that could provide a major early-season statement.
United enter the match after beating West Ham 2-1 in their previous WSL game.
Liverpool also arrive with confidence after defeating Everton 2-0 in the Merseyside derby.
The difference is their overall momentum.
Liverpool have already shown impressive attacking numbers this season, while United have experienced a more complicated start.
That makes today’s meeting particularly interesting.
United know they need consistency if they want to challenge near the top of the table.
Liverpool, meanwhile, can strengthen their position with another strong result.
There is also recent history between the sides.
Manchester United have won the previous two meetings between the clubs, giving Liverpool extra motivation to change the trend.
United’s attacking players will need to be sharp because Liverpool have already shown they can punish defensive mistakes.
The home side will also have the advantage of playing in front of their supporters.
However, Liverpool’s confidence after the Everton victory should not be underestimated.
This is exactly the type of fixture where early-season momentum can change quickly.
A United victory would reinforce their recovery.
A Liverpool win would send a completely different message.
Either way, this is more than just another league match.
