Everton 1-0 Ipswich
Everton have taken an early lead against Ipswich Town in Saturday’s Premier League meeting at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
The breakthrough came through Thierno Barry after a deflection from James Tarkowski’s effort sent the ball into the Ipswich net.
It was not the cleanest goal, but Everton will certainly take it.
David Moyes’ side entered the match unbeaten after their opening four league games and were hoping to continue that positive start.
Everton have already shown strong defensive organisation this season, keeping two clean sheets before the Ipswich clash. That defensive discipline could become important as the visitors look for an equaliser.
Ipswich arrived with confidence after beating Crystal Palace 3-2 in their previous Premier League match.
Gary O’Neil’s side have also collected six points from their first four matches, making their start to life back in the top flight encouraging.
The early Everton goal has changed the contest, however.
Ipswich now have to attack without giving Everton too much space to counter. The Toffees can become dangerous when they recover possession and quickly release their forwards.
There is still plenty of football remaining, so Everton cannot afford to relax.
For Ipswich, the next goal could completely change the match.
At the moment, though, Everton have given themselves an important advantage in front of their home supporters.
