Liverpool Injury Scare
Liverpool are facing an anxious wait over Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak after both forwards suffered injury problems during the international break.
Gakpo was forced off after only 17 minutes of the Netherlands’ 2-1 win over Serbia. The Liverpool forward appeared to suffer an ankle problem following a heavy challenge.
The Netherlands medical team is expected to assess him further, with reports stating that a scan is being considered to determine the seriousness of the injury.
Isak has also returned to Liverpool after withdrawing from Sweden duty with a minor thigh problem.
Sweden coach Graham Potter said the injury was not serious but explained that the striker would not be risked because of the busy schedule.
The timing creates an unwanted problem for Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola.
Isak has started the season strongly, while Gakpo remains an important attacking option. Losing either player for a significant period would force Liverpool to change their plans.
