Ghana have made a stunning decision by reappointing Carlos Queiroz as head coach of the Black Stars, just two months after the Portuguese manager stepped down from the position.
The Ghana Football Association has reached an agreement with the experienced coach to return and lead the national team into the next phase of its campaign.
Queiroz previously took charge of Ghana during the 2026 World Cup campaign before leaving his position following the tournament.
His return has therefore come as a major surprise, particularly because of how quickly the situation has changed.
The 73-year-old coach brings enormous international experience, having previously worked with several national teams including Portugal, Iran, Colombia and Egypt.
The Ghana Football Association believes that experience will be valuable as the Black Stars prepare for their next challenge.
Queiroz’s new assignment begins during the September 21 to October 6 international window.
Ghana are scheduled to face Ivory Coast in home and away fixtures as part of the qualification process for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
The decision to bring Queiroz back has already created plenty of discussion.
Supporters may question why the Ghanaian authorities allowed him to leave in the first place if they ultimately believed he remained the right man for the job.
There will also be pressure on Queiroz to deliver quickly because his return comes with very little time to prepare for the upcoming matches.
The coach will now have to rebuild confidence around the Black Stars while dealing with expectations from supporters who want Ghana competing strongly on the continental stage.

For the GFA, however, the decision will be judged by results.
After leaving the job only two months ago, Queiroz is suddenly back in charge.
