Liverpool have confirmed that 1892 Holdings, a consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, is buying a minority stake in the club.

The deal is a major business development around one of English football’s biggest institutions, but it does not mean Liverpool are changing hands completely. Fenway Sports Group will remain in control, while the incoming group becomes a significant minority investor.

According to reports, the consortium is led by Amit Bhatia and has acquired a stake of more than 30 per cent. The reported valuation of the club is around $6 billion.

What It Means for Liverpool

For supporters, the key point is continuity. Liverpool’s existing ownership structure and football leadership are expected to remain in place, with the investment designed to strengthen the club’s long-term financial position rather than trigger an immediate takeover.

That extra backing could become important as elite clubs face rising costs in transfers, wages, infrastructure and commercial competition. Liverpool already operate as one of the strongest brands in world football; the new investment underlines just how valuable the club has become.

There will still be questions from fans. A minority sale involving two globally recognised technology and business figures will inevitably fuel curiosity about whether it could lead to greater investment in the squad, stadium, academy or international growth.

For now, the confirmed development is clear: new investors are coming in, but FSG are staying in charge.
