Chelsea Women Send Huge Warning With Brutal 5-0 Rout of Manchester United
Chelsea Women have delivered a statement performance by destroying Manchester United 5-0 in the Women’s Super League.
Sonia Bompastor’s side responded emphatically to their opening-day draw with Aston Villa, dominating from the opening stages and producing one of their most complete performances of the young season.
Sjoeke Nüsken opened the scoring before Keira Walsh, Lauren James, Ellie Carpenter and Lucy Bronze all found the net.
Manchester United were overwhelmed.
Chelsea finished the match with 63% possession and 25 shots, including 11 on target, while United managed only two attempts throughout the contest.
Lauren James was particularly influential. The England international operated with greater freedom and repeatedly caused problems for United’s defence before eventually getting her name on the scoresheet.
Bompastor described the ruthless approach as a form of respect for the opposition, insisting that Chelsea had to remain aggressive rather than ease off.
For United manager Eva Olid, the result represents another difficult chapter in the club’s early-season rebuild. Her side have now lost both of their opening league matches after also suffering defeat against London City Lionesses.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have immediately re-established themselves as serious title contenders.
Their next challenge is maintaining this level consistently.
