COLE PALMER PULLS OUT OF ENGLAND SQUAD AFTER CHELSEA INJURY BLOW
Chelsea have suffered another worrying setback after Cole Palmer withdrew from England duty with a muscle injury, just days after returning to the Three Lions squad.
Palmer had earned a recall from Thomas Tuchel following his omission from England’s World Cup squad and was expected to play a key role in the upcoming Nations League fixtures. However, the Chelsea forward has now pulled out after reporting a muscle problem.
The timing is particularly frustrating for Chelsea because Palmer had started the new campaign in impressive form. The 24-year-old has registered four goals and two assists in seven appearances for the Blues, showing signs of returning to his best after an injury-hit previous season.
Palmer also completed the full 90 minutes during Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat at Brentford, but the subsequent injury has forced him to withdraw from England’s squad.
England are preparing for four Nations League matches during the extended international window, beginning with a huge meeting against Spain at Wembley.
For Chelsea, however, the immediate concern will be Palmer’s recovery and whether the problem keeps him out beyond the international break.
With the attacking midfielder becoming increasingly important to Xabi Alonso’s team, Chelsea fans will now be hoping the injury is only minor.
