Palace Reject Liverpool’s £50m Sarr Bid
Liverpool reportedly made a £50 million approach for Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr before the summer transfer window closed.
But Palace chairman Steve Parish has revealed that accepting the offer was never seriously considered.
Liverpool made their move with only days remaining in the transfer window as they explored attacking options.
Palace rejected the approach.
Parish reportedly described the possibility of Sarr leaving for £50 million as something that was “never going to happen”.
The decision underlines Palace’s determination to keep the Senegal international.
Sarr had also attracted interest from Galatasaray. However, Palace refused to allow the winger to leave during the window.
Liverpool eventually completed their major move for Bradley Barcola, but the Sarr approach shows that the Reds explored other options before finalising their attacking plans.
Sarr remains an important part of Palace’s squad.
His pace and ability to attack defenders make him a valuable player for the London club. Palace therefore had little reason to accept a late offer unless the financial package matched their plans.
For Liverpool, the failed approach is another reminder of how difficult Premier League negotiations can become.
Even a substantial offer does not guarantee a deal.
Palace made their position clear, and Liverpool eventually had to move in another direction.
