Chelsea Women have ended Arsenal’s long unbeaten run after securing a dramatic 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge.
Alyssa Thompson scored the only goal of the match in the 39th minute after reacting quickest to a rebound.
Arsenal started strongly and created several chances. Kim Little and Mariona Caldentey both hit the post, but the Gunners could not turn their pressure into a goal.
Chelsea gradually grew into the contest and became more dangerous after taking the lead.
The Blues then defended their advantage successfully during the second half.
The result ended Arsenal’s WSL unbeaten run, which had stretched back to October 2025.
The Gunners had gone 20 league matches without defeat before Sunday’s meeting.
Chelsea’s victory also moved them closer to the top of the table, while Arsenal were left with another difficult result after their recent struggles.
The defeat does not decide the season, but it gives Chelsea a major psychological moment in one of the biggest rivalries in English women’s football.
Thompson’s goal will receive plenty of attention, but Chelsea’s defensive discipline was equally important.
